I was looking for a way to generate extra income working from home after being out of the workforce approximately five years while raising our girls. I made a decision to do everything in my power to be at home with them the first few years of their lives. I must say, running after these two while they were young was one of the many joys in my life.
Back in 2009, we had a family event that literally changed my thinking about finances and planning. At the time, my husband Jarrott was the sole income earner and was being downsized from a Fortune 50 company. With severance package in hand and contemplating our next step, we started asking ourselves serious questions about our financial future. We were very uncomfortable with the answers pertaining to retirement savings and college tuition. We wanted to be in total control. With the economy in shambles and very few job prospects, my husband landed a corporate role after six stressful months. This got me thinking about having alternative options for generating income. I did not want to go back to a 9-5 job but realized something was going to have to give if we were to maintain our lifestyle. We needed an alternate income plan and set sail on this entrepreneurial journey. No, we are not rich, but comfortable having a plan for replacing my income while working from home and sharing what we learned along the way. Hi, I am Jarrott. While being out of work for six months back in 2009, I learned a lot about myself and how important personal development is for the psyche. I must say it was really depressing hearing opportunities had dried up in my field. Let’s just say this is not what you want to hear when you have a family depending on you and need to find something quickly. With the love and support of family and friends, I immediately jumped into action (..panic mode really) and began doing what everyone preaches which is to primarily focus on networking to find my next job. This practice yielded a positive result in the end but marked a stressful time period in our lives.
As a result, I decided to partner with my wife in creating a business to leverage against uncertain times and rough economic periods. I am very happy with my corporate role but felt it necessary to examine all additional and alternate income sources and strategies. As Sharron mentioned above, we made several decisions about how we wanted to raise our kids and needed to continue with that action plan. We knew it was not going to be easy but wanted to safeguard against being in the same predicament again. In exploring our options, we saw the internet as a viable means to achieving the alternative income we were seeking. This website is an expression of that concept and we are interested in sharing and inspiring those who may be looking as well.
